SPEED READING
Target User Group:
This game is for anyone who wants to learn to read more rapidly and with better understanding.
Problem Description:
Anyone can read but it doesn’t mean that he/she can read rapidly and comprehensively. Poor readers read in short units, and takes in only one, two, or three words at each pause of the eyes. So long as a person reads in this manner, he/she cannot pick up much speed. The larger thoughts are cut up into many pieces so it is hard to get the full meaning of a passage.
Problem Context and Forces:
Regardless of a person’s age or occupation or the kind of reading that he/she has to do, he can learn to read more rapidly and with better understanding. In order to increase reading speed, a person has to change his/her incorrect physical habits such as vocalizing the words, pointing fingers along the lines while reading, and so on.
Solution Sketch:
Terms:
- W.P.M. : Words Per Minute
Objective:
- This game will help the player improve his/her reading skills by training him/her with correct reading styles.
Settings:
- There will be instructions on reading techniques, and then eye training exercises will be given to improve the player’s eye movement and reduce number of eye pauses. - W.P.M. is calculated by dividing the number of words in a selection by the number of seconds that it took to the player to read. Multiply the result by 60 to convert to minutes. - Applying reading techniques, the player will be asked to read. The reading rate will be calculated in W.P.M. once the player has finished reading a selection. - After each reading selection, the player will be checked for comprehension by answering multiple choice questions. The comprehension score will be calculated based on the number of correct answers.
