Target User Group

Children who are still learning their early math skills. They should be at or before the point where they have memorized their multiplication tables.

Problem Description

Education. Math is a dreaded subject for a lot of children, and if we could put it into a realm that they already know, it can betaught in a way that is fun.

Problem context and Forces

When I grew up, platformers were all the rage. That's why Number Munchers was loosely a platform game. Kids these days are playing role playing games. Pokemon and suchforth... The niche for an educational role playing game hasn't been filled. Ironically, role playing games already incorporate basic math skills because you have to manage hit points and attack points and so on. However, similar to games like Mario RPG and Legend of Dragoon, there can be interactive attacks, but instead of hitting a button with good timing, you're solving a math equation as fast as possible. It can be fast paced and fun. Instead of Earth, Fire Wind and Water, we can have Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division.

Solution Sketch

Like any other RPG, there is an overworld view where you can walk around. The story might be math-oriented and campy... It might be a normal and serious fantasy story.

But also, you can get into battles which start as standard RPG battles.

But once you attack, a dialog will pop up. The faster that you answer the question, the stronger your attack will be.

But if you get the question wrong...
