Target User Group

The target user group is young professionals, ages 18-30 who either have a job and can support themselves, or are in the process of becoming self-independent. In other words, people who are capable of living away from their parents/guardians.

Problem Description

Many people do not know how to manage their own finances and plan for retirement because they did not receive sufficient education in this area of life skills. In addition, many people are not aware that personal financial management is an important life skill.

Problem Context and Forces

Many primary and secondary educational institutions today are only focusing towards math and reading/writing skills. This leaves many other life skills such as personal financial management up to parents/guardians to teach. Unfortunately, parents/guardians are not always in the best situation to teach these things. In addition, personal financial management is a difficult topic to learn without outside help.

Solution Sketch

My solution is to devise a young-professional RPG (role playing game). The goal of the game is to hit retirement with a sufficient amount of money and health. These two scores (money and health) are gained or lost through choices that the player makes for his/her character, which can include things such as career choice, retirement plan option, money spending, vacation time, eating habits, etc. For example, the player can choose to save money by skipping meals, but this will quickly take a toll on the character's health. Every 10 actions will represent a month of the character's life, and the game ends when the player reaches 60 years of age.
