Healthy Cooking Simulation

Some people love to play cooking simulation game (for example Cooking Mama[1]) that challenge the player to actually create a specified food step by step until its completion. The amount of nutrients resulted in each recipe is not an issue since the food is really "virtually ideal". Wouldn't it be nice if we can mix and match foods in a game and get the food facts out of the food we produced? How about a game that will score the food that we made?

Target User Group

This game is intended for a group of health-aware people (especially student) who like to cook their own meal. Student tends to be more adventurous in trying new kinds of food for their healthy diet. For some health-aware students that have been making their own meal, they need food facts for the food they've been making as a feedback. For some other health-aware students that have been buying meal from places such as cafeteria, they also need food facts which sometimes are not provided.

Problem Description

While it is obvious that health-aware students will put their favorite healthy ingredients in their meal, they sometimes unconsciously overkill certain nutrient while lacking other nutrients in their own meal. A program that keeps track of the food nutrient will help them in deciding which ingredient to be included in their self-made meal.

Problem Context and Forces

Nowadays students that are more concerned with healthy issue begin to make their own meal instead of buying it from other places. Some students are experienced in mixing balanced ingredients in their meals but other student can't even know how to begin or what ingredient should they use. Some obstacles that student face when they try to make their own meals are:

  • Afraid of wasting ingredients and money.
What if they ended up with non-balanced nutrient?
  • Time.
Searching on the internet for each ingredient's nutrition facts and adding all of the ingredients' nutrition facts manually consume too much time.
  • Ideas.
Where to begin with? Any ideas what kind of ingredients should be there?

Solution Sketch

I propose to create a program in a form of games that allows the player to design and create the food virtually. The games works by following steps below:

  • Select which food to be included in the recipe
  • Drag and drop the food into virtual table
  • Move around the food inside the table

The main purpose of this game is to allow players to create and design their own healthy meal without risking too much time researching and/or wasting money while also educates them the importance of having a well-balanced nutrients in the meal that they design. Of course, there will be some preloaded recipe to help the player who does not know or have any idea how to begin. After the player finishes the design, the game will list all the ingredient used, provide a nutrition facts and graphs, then score the recipe. The scoring system is based on how nutrients, and is used to motivate player in creating healthier food.

The program will contains the following features:

  • Preloaded Database of foods + icon.
  • Flexible Database that allows addition of new foods/recipes.
  • Preloaded Food facts for a lot of healthy ingredients.
  • Food Facts generator of a recipe that the player create.
  • Simple interface, easy to understand and yet interactive.

as shown in the picture below:

Some more feature that is not yet included in the picture above but will be implemented are:

  • [nut-fact] menu that will show the nutrition facts of the selected food.
  • trashbin icon that allows player to move a food from the table and exclude it from the recipe.
  • [StartOver] menu in case the player wants to start over
