Interview with Wylie
Name: Wylie Sex: Male Gaming Experience: Inexperienced
Roles
- Intro: Nathan
- Camera: Jon
- Computer: Jacek
- Note taker: Kev
Notes
- Pause/Resume
- No problems, perfect!
- Eat Food
- Hesitated after cutting the steak and picking up a piece (didn’t know he had to click on the face), but figured it out after 5 seconds
- The rest is history…
- Eat Food w/ Distractions
- Like the other two, he had a good start eating the food. Also like the others, he found the body movements to be a little shocking but didn’t know it stood for bad posture so he didn’t correct it immediately
- Knew to click and drag body parts to fix posture
Follow Up Questions
- What was the biggest challenge you faced in the game?
- Not asked, unnecessary
- What part of the interface worked for you? What was clear/intuitive? What wasn’t?
- Obvious: fork and knife work
- Dragging body parts, perhaps b/c of the lack of cursor
- Slowing down: which part to pause at
- If the interface was flushed out, do you think the game is a good way to teach people about dining etiquette?
- The posture would work, but for pacing have some sort of indicator
- Was it intuitive to use two buttons for the left/right (fork/knife) hands?
- Yes, the instructions really helped
- Was it difficult for you to figure out to click the utensils as opposed to drag them?
- Not asked
- For the body movements, did you expect to click or drag the body parts?
- He dragged first
- Do you think the cursors were useful at all or were they extraneous?
- Not asked
- Did you expect the person to stab his head when you mouseovered the head?
- If you could have additional dialogue boxes with instructions, what would they say and when would they appear?
- For slouching, have a dialogue box appear as soon as the body begins to slouch
- Is there anything else you would change about the interface?
- Having a pacing thing or speedometer
Questions from User
- None
Additional Notes
- Maybe dotted lines to show where the posture should be
- For pacing, have an average pacing on the “food remaining” bar… your pace is mapped against it
Interview with Morgan
Name: Morgan Sex: Male Gaming Experience: Experienced
Roles
- Intro: Josh
- Camera: Jon
- Computer: Nathan
- Note taker: Kev
Notes
- Pause/Resume
- Pausing the game was easy for Morgan
- He had a difficult time reading the text on the pause menu (probably just poor writing)
- Eat Food
- Either having trouble figuring out how to use fork/knife or interface isn’t clear
- Fork isn’t placed on steak
- Once the steak has been cut, Morgan found it easy to eat the cut piece
- Once he figured out how to cut and eat the steak, he easily completed the task
- Eat Food w/ Distractions
- Confused about tilted head (put the warning up after the body was really slouching)
- Didn’t know what to do
- Continued eating
- Started to understand what was happening after the dialogue box appeared
- Attempted to drag the head up
- Confused about tilted head (put the warning up after the body was really slouching)
Follow Up Questions
- What was the biggest challenge you faced in the game?
- Trying to figure out how to click the food to stab it w/ a fork and cut it… eating was simple
- What part of the interface worked for you? What was clear/intuitive? What wasn’t?
- Clear/intuitive: eating the food
- If the interface was flushed out, do you think the game is a good way to teach people about dining etiquette?
- Very (too) basic, not enough detail about the minor dining etiquettes
- Could be an effective way to teach basics
- Was it intuitive to use two buttons for the left/right (fork/knife) hands?
- Not asked
- Was it difficult for you to figure out to click the utensils as opposed to drag them?
- First tried to click and drag utensils, but then he saw the cursor diagrams and it then became obvious
- For the body movements, did you expect to click or drag the body parts?
- Click and then drag
- Do you think the cursors were useful at all or do were they extraneous?
- No answer
- Did you expect the person to stab his head when you mouseovered the head?
- No, he noticed the cursors. It was a little bit of a challenge because we used paper but it’d be much easier if it were instantaneous
- Is there anything else you would change about the interface?
- Tutorial (i.e. a mouse over tutorial)
Questions from User
- None
Additional Notes
- In the tutorial, have the dialogue box for slouching appear as soon as the body starts slouching
