Idea Selection
Out of all the ideas that were suggested we liked the running app the best because we felt that it would fill the need of those that love to run and want to track their running. It would be designed to streamline the process of tracking basic statics of a run, displaying those routes onto a map overlay, and possibly integrating with different social networks. We felt like the user group would be fun to work with, easy to access and that field research would be exciting as well.
Target User Group
Our target user group consists of any novice runners and/or people who like run in general. We want to make the whole experience of running, urban or cross country, easier and more enjoyable to track their running times and routes. We also want to target runners who want to compete with other friends or themself to become better runners.
Problem Description and Context
Many people are often lazy to keep track of their running statistics. There is just too many details that are hard to track with a simple stop watch as well as a way to neatly record and review them. With this application, users will be able start the app and just run. The device will take care of all the tracking of time, speed, pace, routes and other details automatically. If the user wants to, he or she can check their status while they run to better pace themself. The application will also provide way for users to log their routes and compete with themself or with other friends. This adds a social aspect to the app as well thus creating a fun a better community for running enthusiast.
Why Mobile?
Mobile applications have the advantage of being very focused and very portable, allowing our target users to automatically track their runs and then view them. People also tend to bring their phones when they go out to run, thus not create an inconvenience to a routine runner. Since its mobile, user can quickly check their status while they are running or while they take a break during the run. This allows users to improve their run while they are running rather then waiting until they're done to evaluate their run.
